Mr. Tim Vora, Executive Director of HACC and Project Coordinator for Project 12 on Patient Access, participated in the launch of the Phnom Penh City Cancer Project, organized by the Department of Preventive Medicine of the Ministry of Health with financial support from C/Can in Cambodia. The event was presided over by H.E. Dr. Ngov Kang, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Health, along with other distinguished guests from various departments of the Ministry of Health. Around 100 participants attended the meeting, including representatives from public, private, and NGO hospitals, NGOs, and people living with cancer in Cambodia.
The C/Can project began its implementation in Cambodia in June 2023 and is a five-year initiative supporting 12 projects with 27 specific outputs. The project aims to strengthen cancer services, including prevention, screening, and treatment across the country. Access to healthcare has improved significantly, increasing from 30–40% to 70%. However, cancer services are still not fully comprehensive in Cambodia, leading some patients to previously seek care abroad. Now, more patients are able to access care and treatment within Cambodia.
The 12 projects under C/Can are designed to benefit healthcare providers and patients while contributing to the strengthening of Cambodia’s healthcare system. The projects include:
1. Clinical Laboratory and Pathology
2. Radiology and Nuclear Medicine
3. Systematic Treatment
4. Pediatric Oncology
5. Radiotherapy
6. Cancer Surgery
7. Palliative Care
8. Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), Quality, and Safety
9. Health System Coordination and Management
10. Health Information Systems (HIS) and Database Management
11. Health Financing and Affordability
12. Patient Access
The overall goal of the project is to improve the accessibility and quality of cancer care services in Phnom Penh.
