Community Joins Physical Activity Event at Wat BotumVatey Park
Health Action Coordinating Committee (HACC) as the secretariat of The Cambodian NCD Alliance (CNCDA) in collaboration with Preventive Medicine Department, Ministry of Health, National Center for Health Promotion, Municipality Health Department, Civil Social Organization, and a representative of PLWNCDs successfully launched a national awareness campaign on the prevention and control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) at Wat BotumVatey Park in Phnom Penh on Monday, 23 June 2025.
Under the theme “Move for Health, Prevent NCDs”, the campaign brought together civil society organizations, youth groups, health professionals, and members of the public for a 2 hours in the evening of physical activity, public education, and community engagement. Participants joined a range of fitness exercises including, aerobics, and group stretching—all aimed at highlighting the importance of regular physical activity in reducing the risks associated with NCDs such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, and chronic respiratory conditions.

This event is part of a broader effort to raise national awareness on the increasing burden of NCDs in Cambodia and to promote healthy lifestyles across all age groups. According to the Ministry of Health, NCDs account for over 64% of total deaths in the country, with lifestyle factors such as poor diet, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, and physical inactivity being the major contributing risks.
“We aim to engage the public, especially the younger generation, to take charge of their health through simple but effective actions like regular exercise, healthy eating, and regular health check-ups,” said by Mr. Tim Vora, Executive Director of HACC. “Today’s campaign demonstrates the power of community-driven action in preventing diseases that are largely avoidable.”
Key messages shared during the event included the importance of early screening, reducing sugar and salt intake, quitting smoking, and avoiding harmful use of alcohol. Informational booths, health screenings, and interactive Q&A sessions were also available for participants to learn more about how to protect themselves and their families.
The organizers expressed appreciation to all partners, stakeholders, and community members for their strong support in making this campaign a success. The Cambodian NCD Alliance and HACC reaffirm their commitment to work hand-in-hand with government and civil society to advance national efforts in the prevention and control of NCDs.
