Purpose of the workshop is to gather inputs and comments from key stakeholders on the draft National Cancer Control Plan 2025-2030 for further improvement, especially inputs on strategic goals, objectives and key actions that are evidence-based and relevant to the Cambodian context for improving access to quality cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and care, as well as mechanisms for the implementation management, coordination, monitoring and evaluation.

About 100 people from relevant departments, national hospitals, national university, institute, representatives from provincial health departments and health partners participated in the workshop. Mr. Tim Vora, Executive Director of HACC also participated in this consultative workshop.

Addressing at the opening remarks by honorable guests, an estimated 10 million deaths attributable to cancer are reported annually with about 75% of these occurring in low- and middle-income countries.

In Cambodia, NCDs and NCD-associated deaths are also on the rise. Among all deaths, the mortality due to NCDs increased from 52% in 2014 to 64% in 2018. Cancer related mortality contributed with 14% to all-cause mortality in 2018 in Cambodia. It is estimated that in Cambodia there were 19,794 new cases of cancer in 2022, including 9,171 males and 10,624 females.

To respond to this problem more effectively as well as to contribute to health sector development to achieve universal health coverage in Cambodia, the Ministry of Health initiated the development of a National Cancer Control Plan 2025-2030.

As part of the development process, consultation with key stakeholders is a necessary step to ensure the quality and comprehensiveness of the plan as well as their commitment to participate in the implementation of the plan.

At the workshop, all participants were divided into seven groups for the group discussion including Diagnostic Imaging and Nuclear Medicine, Diagnostic Pathology, Treatment Medical and Radiation Oncology, Treatment Surgical Oncology, Pediatric Oncology, Palliative Care and Supportive Mechanism.

This workshop on organized by the Ministry of Health and supported by the C/Can.
