The Health Action Coordinating Committee (HACC), in collaboration with the Transcultural Psychosocial Organization (TPO) Cambodia, the National MSM and TG network (Bandanh Chaktomuk), and the National Young Key Population Network (YKP), organized a three-day mental health training aimed at strengthening the mental well-being of young key populations. The training, held from October 29-31, 2024, in Kampot, was generously funded by the French Embassy, highlighting its commitment to supporting mental health initiatives among vulnerable youth communities in Cambodia.

This was the first of a three-phase training session focused on psychosocial development and mental health care support for young key populations. A diverse group of 16 young MSM and TG who demonstrate leadership potential within their communities from four provinces—Kampong Cham, Preah Sihanouk, Takeo, and Battambang were invited to attend.

The training program was structured around interactive sessions, sharing, and group activities, covering a range of mental health topics. This hands-on approach allowed participants to gain practical tools that will benefit not only themselves but also their wider communities. The training covered essential areas such as stress management, emotional regulation, and peer support strategies, providing a comprehensive approach to mental health care.

This three-day mental health training, supported by the French Embassy, proved to be a crucial step toward improving mental health awareness and resilience among Cambodia’s young key populations. Through hands-on learning and skill development, participants acquired valuable tools to enhance their mental well-being and support their peers. Both HACC, TPO, BC, and YKP are committed to following up with participants and encouraging them to participate in the second and final training sessions scheduled for December 2024. HACC, TPO, BC, and YKP Cambodia extend their sincere appreciation to the French Embassy for its support and to the young participants for their engagement and commitment to building a mentally resilient future for their communities.
