About Douleurs Sans Frontières (DSF)
Douleurs Sans Frontières (DSF) is a humanitarian organization committed to improving the quality of life for people facing life-limiting illnesses through palliative care and psychosocial support in Cambodia. Our mission is to strengthen access to palliative care in Cambodia through the following goals:
- Providing home-based palliative care (HBPC) and psychosocial support to patients and their families.
- Strengthening the capacities of healthcare workers and medical students in palliative care and pain management.
- Supporting the Ministry of Health (MoH) in cancer pain management and advocating for better access to palliative care in Cambodia.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Country Director and the Medical Coordinator, the Nurse will be responsible for providing nursing care to patients facing life-limiting illnesses at the DSF health facility and in patients' homes. Working closely with the medical team, the nurse will offer clinical care and counseling to patients and their families, following established standards and procedures.
1. Palliative Care Consultations
- Greet patients and prepare them for medical examination by doctors.
- Conduct vital signs measurements and other necessary medical check-ups.
- Ensure that examination rooms and home care kits are stocked with required supplies and materials.
- Assist physicians during examinations when needed.
- Administer home-based nursing care for patients, ensuring comfort and medical needs are met.
- Prepare medications and explain the doctor’s prescription to patients and caregivers to ensure safe and effective use.
2. Follow-up and Support
- Ensure regular follow-up of patients through home visits or phone calls.
- Provide health education to patients and caregivers about diagnoses, hygiene, and nutrition.
- Offer counseling and psychosocial support through continuous follow-up and case management.
- Make appropriate referrals when necessary for further care.
3. Training and Capacity Building
- Participate in awareness and training sessions on palliative care organized by DSF.
- Assist in the development of documents, guidelines, or other materials produced by DSF to support the palliative care network.
4. Administration
- Update patient folders and appointment details in a timely manner.
- Adhere to administrative directives regarding work schedules, record-keeping, and patient communications.
- Ensure that essential drugs, consumables, and other medical supplies are adequately stocked.
- Comply with DSF charts and internationally accepted humanitarian principles.
- Ensure administrative and financial follow up with patients and caregivers.
Education:
- Certified/Registered Nurse
Skills and Experience:
- At least 3 years of working experience as a nurse.
- Experience in providing counseling and psychosocial support to vulnerable patients.
- Previous experience in an NGO setting is preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills (both oral and written) in Khmer and English.
- Ability to work independently with excellent self-motivation and flexibility.
- Ability to handle stressful situations, especially related to end-of-life care.
Language Skills:
- Proficiency in both Khmer and English (oral and written).
